Day 0 | Food Fair: Parsley, Sage, Rosemary and Thyme

"I can deal with people approaching to request services. It's why I'm here, to hunt or deal with large beasts. It's the ones that just want to talk. Those ones won't take the hint. Would rather be cornered by multiple beasts with limited ammo than deal with another question about my future social plans."

She took a moment to bite off a large mouthful of meat from the skewer.

While he listens, Razar pops a candied grape in his mouth. "Social events are how a lot of people like to get together to discuss business around here. Must drive you nuts?" he replies with a small smile. "What's the most dangerous prey on the continent that you've hunted?"

"Fire-knife? The hell's a fire-knife? Is it what it sounds like, or is this some kind of ceremonial name for something?"

“It’s what it sounds like. You take a knife, attach it to a stick and set it on fire. Then you twirl them around and toss them in the air… hopefully not killing yourself in the process.”

He points out vaguely into the distance. “The natives in this part of the planet are well-known for fire-knife dancing. Definitely something to see if you haven’t before.”

"Mhhmmmmm, this is yummy." Hadrian nods then dips the pastry in Tzaziki. "Ohh! Eileen right? You gotta try this!" He passes over some of the homemade sauce he had set aside for the pork skewers.

"Huh. Sounds like the kind of thing some of the psychotropics from Ecaz would amplify a bit. But they'd probably also lead to half the damn continent burning down..."

“You spend much time out in the wilder parts of Caladan yet?”

"Elacca's pretty lush. Still think we'd manage... but far as it goes, mostly seen the spaceport, the settlements, and a warehouse or two."

And the bars, of course, she'd seen plenty of bars.

"For some reason, locals ain't too keen on letting me wander around unsupervised."

With adventurous food-making slowing down, the regular cooks came to the rescue, rolling out large pundi rice paella pans, with clam and shrimp and indiscriminate amount of herbs.

"I avoid social events" Lydia frowned as she thought "hmm...there was a very large shark straying into fishing vessel waters I needed to remove a year or so ago. Other than that it's been ensuring nothing leaving the jungle attacks the farmlands. Large snakes, boars, that kind of thing. I haven't gone into the jungle much on request, and never beyond the initial point scouting. Got good range and good aim, and I do what I need to."

"Skills? Nothing nice. Got bloody on Ecaz, stayed bloody on Grumman. Hobbies..."

Did getting absolutely hammered in an effort to not think about her life counted?

Probably not.

"Not much to speak of. Haven't had much leisure time."

"Shark? I haven't had shark meat in a while. I should get some. So did you fish it out or harpoon it and drag it out? What does hunting an individual shark entail?" Razar asks curiously.

"Shot it" Lydia shrugged "it wasn't a hunt. The shark was harassing fishing boats and breaking fishing nets, and wouldn't go away. Dunno if they ate it, I just did what was asked, it got lured up to the surface and I took it out. Harpoons would likely be easier but my gun is more precise."

"Duties?"

She almost snorted.

"You see any insignia? Not duty. Need. Need has me looking for work most days. And the only work I know how t'do ain't too pleasant, so..."

Efren didn’t particularly seem to mind at the parsing of work versus duty and nodded.
