Day 3 | Afternoon | Feint Within Feint

[Kannon]

The sap was giving Hadrian no peace. What if someone doused themselves in it and ran into eels? It was said they looked like lianas, it was easy not to be careful. Those chasing may get the wrong idea about their lethality if the sap proved to be insulating enough.

[Hadrian Martikova]

"Awesome. Thank you for that." Bern said, nodding his head. "As I said, that was my hope. You get somewhere and cover us and we'll hold the line back as long as we can. Just make sure to point out where you are to Hadrian so he can run to you if things start to go south. We plan on holding the line out here for however long we're able to. Hopefully, if everyone did their job, it won't be too long." He looked to Hadrian to see if he had anything else he wanted to chime in on.

Hadrian gave a brief PSA about what Tree Eels look like, their lethality, and how to avoid them. He ponders the thing about sap aloud but reminds those with shields not to touch the stuff. Afterwards he nods one more time to his brother.

"I'm ready. Let's do this thing and go home."

[Lydia Storm]

"If things start to go south he should just run back the way we came and I'll cover him with gunfire. Leading them to me gives me away and removes the advantage of a sniper" Lydia turned "let's go."

[Hadrian Martikova]

Hadrian gets a good lay of the land then falls in like a good soldier. He's done all he can and is ready at any time to start the operation.

(What's the play? Scout the enemies and be 'discovered'? Or wait until go time to blunder towards the pass?)

[Kannon]

[A flare in the skies and then you need to start taking off their assets in spectacular, loud ways. I think Lydia still have kaboom ammo? So the last risk you haven't yet taken is to find an asset to start with.]

[Bernard Martikova]

"Works for me, then. Suppose we're about as ready as we'll ever be. Just keep a sharp eye out for anything until we make contact, otherwise we won't get a chance." He awaited Lydia's instructions on the matter to see where to go next. Another long breath to help keep him calm with what was about to happen.

[Lydia Storm]

"Continue down that pathway, you'll reach the pass soon enough. I'll keep you in sight and when you're close enough I'll take the first shot" she shifted her gun over, taking out the normal ammo and putting in the more explosive ammo.

"May be worth trying to be quiet until you get close but if not just try not to be on the path first."

[Kannon]

Lydia was in her spot but she didn't see anything.

D3 afternoon survival. Self reliance. Hard dif with 1 setback: 1eA+2eP+3eD+1eS 2 failures, 1 threat

For now, their enemies remained hidden in their positions, what made it a tad difficult to determine what to shoot at.

Looking at the pathway down, Lydia seemed content to be where she was, and he was content to have her there. "Alright then. I know you're both nervous and I know you're no combatant, Hadrian. Not going to lie, these are some low odds of success. If we had more people, maybe this would be better, but it's just us. Doesn't mean we won't win, though. As I said from the beginning, Hadrian, there's no one else I'd rather have behind me than you, little brother. Well, maybe a battalion." He smiled at him and laughed.

"Well, maybe a battalion behind me would be nice. How's your nerves?"

[Hadrian Martikova]

"Good." He nodded trying to hide a slight tremble. "I've... never killed anyone before. Any advice?"

Pre-battle jitters aside Hadrian was also antsy. He felt like there was more to do. Though it wasn't his place to voice that concern.


OOC: Maybe scout fallback positions. Set up some cover. Did we set a rally point incase we have to scatter to the winds?

"They won't show you any hesitancy. Sorry to say, the fear of death might be the push you need to get over it. After that, you just...try not to think about it." That was the worst part about war and all the fighting. The periods where you have time to think and reflect. The faces of those you killed to do your duty clear as day.

"When we fallback, head to this point. Best to not wander too deep around trying to find it, especially when they have eyes all over. Look for anything that will work for cover; trees are you best bet. Stay in it as long as you can unless I tell you to move from it."

[Hadrian Martikova]

He nodded along. "Right. Gotcha... sure.... y-yeah."

It was plain to see that he was afraid. But as afraid as he was he was also angry. He wanted to make them bleed, even if he wasn't sure he'd be able to. So his motivation wasn't wanting. But the fear persisted.

(Got a leadership roll or something to give us an advantage in combat?)
