Timing & Threads

Post by Kannon » Sat Jul 20, 2024 9:04 am

This is not a sandbox game. It's more streamlined and linear, more like a tabletop experience. Think of it as a hybrid between PbP and tabletop. Once you get into the jungle, there's just going to be one general location per day, with some caveats.

This translates into just 4 basic time slots per day: Morning, Afternoon, Evening, Night. I will be making the threads for them and they will be semi-structured, with some overarching situational logic attached to each of them, which often can mean some mechanics and rolls. This also means no-one is missing out on the main action. But I'd also like it to be relatively dynamic, so there will be a time-limit for making those rolls and those who don't make them in that time frame are considered tagging along and not contributing to the particular outcome.

I hope for no long absences and dropouts given the short IC duration of the game, but should they happen, they will be handled in a way that doesn't arrest the progress of the game, which can also mean GM-mandated character MIA.

That said, I don't want to deprive you of explorations and individuated experience. So if you feel like you want to have bonus threads with more limited participation, you can make them for any of the general big time slots (which have already been filled with my thread for that day) while still participating in the thread I've made for that time slot. Those are never going to be uneventful: roll Vigilance vs. 1C+1D+1S for the first participant while making such a thread, success gives a narrative outcome you can build on and failure gives a narrative outcome you can build on. Think of it as side-quests that may enrich your experience and might or might not have any impact on the general plot. However, I'd be grateful for not inflating their number so that I don't spread myself too thin and we don't veer off course of the mission too much, so unless you really want to go out alone, please secure co-participation (PC or NPC) before making them rather then fish for someone to pop up. I'd really like to avoid non-performing threads. I'll be taking your cue so if you seek a private moment for chat or else, the jungle won't sabotage it... most of the time.

I hope such adjustments to the PbP habits are acceptable. We'll see if it works to your satisfaction in shaping dynamic stories in shorter time frame. If the format succeeds, it'll be easier for me to deploy several such games throughout the year, not making you wait for years to return to your characters and the setting.

The game is planned for 4 IC days. I hope that 3 OOC days for 1 IC day is going to be enough, which means we'll be good roughly in 2 weeks since Day 1 kicks off.
