The adoption of SWFFG rule set to a Dune setting requires a tonal change in treating personal gear, from tech-heavy to tech-light.

First of all, for this particular game, money is considered irrelevant. There will be no purchasing opportunities.

The following filters are applied to equipment in order to adjust to the setting.
  • Core Rulebook equipment is the basis for gear selection, with only very thematic exceptions accepted by the GM.
  • No attachments or their modifications, with only very thematic exceptions accepted by the GM.
  • Each character can possess up to four pieces of equipment at game start. Multiple cases of perishables count as one, within reason.
  • Of those, one item can be up to Rarity 4, the rest can be up to Rarity 3.
  • Characters of all backgrounds except Common Folk may choose to upgrade the Rarity limit of one item by one.
  • For offworlders, any other fighting equipment than a personal blade and a personal shield wouldn't have cleared Atreides security checks on arrival. This can be ignored by characters with Criminal background.
The following understandings also apply:
  • Energy weapons like blasters are considered lasguns.
  • Every non-energy projectile can be obtained with Stun Damage Quality. It is considered a Stunner then.
  • All slugthrower weapons are considered Rarity lowered by 1.
  • Knives wielded in offhand are considered Slip-Tips. A Slip-Tip can be an attachment to clothing or armour.
  • Vibroblades are treated as better blades, without the vibration fluff.
  • Blades larger than knives are always considered Cumbersome against Shield.
  • Personal shields are treated as Rarity 5. They have Defensive 2, Deflection 5, Cortosis, Cumbersome. Every damage without Shield Penetration is Stun Damage. They create a sub-atomic (anything less than 1 kiloton of TNT) explosion on contact with lasgun fire.
  • Every blade has Shield Penetration Quality - for 3 Advantage or Triumph.
  • Every blade and needle projectile can be poisoned. Generic poison adds Vicious per level of Rarity.
