Before the players had entered the scene

• The competition for who is going to be the next leader of House Hagal has begun. House Ptolemaios of Harmothep, one of the cadet lines of House Hagal, are in the running.
• As in the past, cadet lines of Hagal worlds hold different strategic priorities and a change of leadership can lead to shift in alliances. Of the pretenders, House Ptolemaios is on face value the most Atreides-aligned.
• House Ptolemaios is currently governed by a pair of siblings. Irene is the nominal leader as the Archon, but much executive power rests with her brother Philadelphos, who is the Strategos.
• Harmothep has a brewing succession crisis of its own. The Archon is childless, the Strategos has a daughter with a Bene Gesserit concubine. The Archon does not seem ready to reliniquish power anytime soon.
• Pankratos is a supreme athlete of unknown origins who has had a meteoric rise as a celebrity on the spectacle-focused world of Harmothep. Pankratos is closely aligned with the Archon.
• Harmothep has come under the Emperor's scrutiny for a past incident of a baloon mocking the Padishah being released in the sports arena during one of the prior sports events.

After the players entered the scene

• Olympics are held and retransmitted across the Imperium. Security is tight on arrival.
• The Qaraa Race, an aerial competition involving local avian megafauna, was won by Bacri, a local slave, who was granted freedom as reward.
• A Bene Gesserit delegation headed by a Reverend Mother arrived on Harmothep.
• The Nemean Games, a race of lion chariots, the most prestigous of the disciplines, ends in a disaster as lions escape into the audience. Two top athletes of local slave origin and a dozen spectators die before the lions are subuded with Pankratos' involvement. This is very bad publicity for House Ptolemaios, especially for the Strategos.
• The investigation into the incident has been launched by the authorities.
• The Zensunni population of Harmothep may grow restless because of the death of their racing heroes.
