Skills

Astrogation
Reserved to the Guild. If you're not involved with them, take some fitting Knowledge instead.

Athletics
As normal.

Brawl
As normal.

Charm
As normal.

Coercion
As normal.

Computers
Changed into Computation because of thinking machines being banned, replaced by mentats. A rare skill. Its possession means that you've been involved with either Ixians, the Guild, or the the Mentat School. The latter may mean you've had some training with them, not necessarily finished the school as a full-fledged Mentat.

It still may be used to deal with real computers or AI if it ever actually comes up, but normally it means you just run the calculations and computations in your head.

Cool
As normal.

Coordination
As normal.

Core Worlds
Scrapped. Take some other Knowledge instead. There is no core and periphery in the known Empire with fold-space transportation. Without the Guild, everything is equally far away as FTL engines have long been phased out.

Deception
As normal.

Discipline
As normal.

Education
An important skill reflecting what you know on how the Imperium works. If you're redirected to some Knowledge, it's probably to this. The Imperium relies on sophisticated education.

Gunnery
As normal, though its use is specific given the nature of projectiles in the setting. Covers ornithopter weaponry. Covers explosive projectiles. Most spaceship weapons are laser i.e. interact with shields, which means they are rarely used.

Leadership
As normal.

Lightsaber
Replaced by Shield or Melee - player's choice.

Lore
As normal, though with twists. Arcane and obscure knowledge of the past is firmly in the hands of the Bene Gesserit, though local traditions have their lores as well. So unless you come from a specific culture with oral memories and sacred texts, your lore comes from the Sisterhood's education.

Mechanics
As normal. It is also the skill of using non-projectile explosives.

Medicine
As normal, up to rank of 2. While Suk Doctors have a claim on that, you can learn some triage and stuff before running into their domain. Beyond 2, you're probably Suk Doctor, certified or failed/renegade.

Melee
As normal, except for what's said about Stealth.

Negotiation
As normal.

Outer Rim
Scrapped, for the same reason as Core Worlds. Treat accordingly.

Piloting - Planetary
We'll rename it Piloting - Surface. For ground/water vehicles/vessels. Sandriding comes in here if we ever apply these rules on Dune proper.

Piloting - Space
We'll rename it Piloting - Aerospace. Aerial and space craft like ornithopters and lighters. Flying in atmosphere was moved here because it's rare to fly in space in the Imperium and the skill would be relatively unuseful compared to Planetary otherwise.

Ranged - Heavy
As normal, though useful almost exclusively for lasguns, so if you don't want to put everyone at the brink of subatomic explosion all the time, you have permission to turn it into Light.

Ranged - Light
All kinds of light projectiles like stunners, maula pistols, small thrown explosives etc. using pneumatic, magnetic or combustive ways to shoot are covered by this skill.

Resilience
As normal.

Shield
New Skill. Covers defences based on the Holtzmann Effect. Can replace Lightsaber when selecting Skills during character generation.

Skulduggery
As normal, but it can also be used as Combat Skill if you are operating an assassination device or other form of drone, like hunter-seekers.

Stealth
As normal, but also promoted to Combat Skill for small non-remote assassination and personal combat weapons - smaller than duelling knives, like slip tips. It is also your poisoning skill.

Streetwise
As normal.

Survival
As normal.

Underworld
As normal.

Vigilance
As normal.

Warfare
As normal.

Xenology
Changed into Ecology. It is a wide scope of knowledge allowing for general comprehension of interplay between humans and their geographical and biological environments. It shares the spirit with Xenology as it lets you grasp the unknown/alien without having studied it before. It includes cultural aspects like customs and religion, but also evolutionary pressures and niches. A rather useful skill for planetary explorations. Feel redirected here from scrapped types of Knowledge if you want to have such competence.
