Day 0 | Festival Event: Wine Race

[Eileen Marsh]

"Why don't you do it then?" Lydia finally shouted at the man teasing Eileen, an annoyed tone in her voice "wine bottle open top raft. Or are you a coward?"

"I don't know about that, but surely not a spiller, like certain Eileen here." The man toasted both ladies with a bottle of cider and started sipping it, snickering. He didn't seem like he could be goaded into fierce competition.

''Blamey. Seems like this one's testicles did'nt drop yet or maybe he has forgotten them at home?'' Eileen taunted back ''Ain't anyone else trying it like we did or did the day reveal that a pair of women have more balls then the whole lot of men on this island?''

Her vindications took a backseat when a guy came in with something to drink

''Honestly, the hecklers should be afraid of me rather then the other way around.'' she sighed ''I am Eileen, as you could have guessed''

Lydia studied the man for a few moments with narrowed eyes.

"Maybe I'll throw you in and see if you can float" she said after a shrug towards the cowardly man before turning to Eileen.

"I was enjoying watching but it seems some must ruin the fun. I'm Lydia, first time being at this festival and the wine race thing is fun to watch."

"Nice to meet you both." He poured. "I did the same thing the year before last and have just kind of accepted that I'm always gonna lose a bottle. I think of it as an offering at this point. Bad publicity is still publicity."

The wine is a Moscato Bianco with the Martikova name. After pouring he clinks glasses, "Cheers!"

Eileen gives a nod to Lydia

''Hello Lydia. Fist time at the festival and sailing with an uncorked bottle? I respect the dare.'' she replied to her before taking the glass from the very forward man.

''Cheers''

There was a shrug.

"It's all about reading the water, didn't seem like a big deal but it appears that's not a common thing?"

She shook her head at the offer of a drink. "I don't drink alcohol."

[Hadrian Martikova]

"Some of us are better at it than others. If I'm interrupting I can go. I just wanted to congratulate you on the win." Hadrian said suddenly feeling a little awkward. "And of course offer my condolences." He said to Eileen.

[Laila Bridger]

These people were weird.

Or maybe they just hadn't seen where pride got you if you were too touchy about it.

"I'll take whatever that one doesn't drink."

''Heh'' she sips the wine ''No guts, no glory. Can't improve by doing easy things.''

She frowns

''So you sound like a local. You are from around here, right?''

Another new face came to join the conversation

"It's my pleasure, Hadrian." He says pouring for Laila. He tilts his head in the opposite direction as if inviting her to walk and talk.

Turning back to answer Eileen, "Local? Sort of, I'm from wine country but my family always attends the Harvest festival here. So every year I catch up with friends and family that are locals. You?"

"It's my pleasure, Hadrian." He says pouring for Laila. He tilts his head in the opposite direction as if inviting her to walk and talk.

"Laila."

She seemed quite prepared to fall in step.

"I didn't think you were but I'm also not good at reading people" Lydia frowned "but thank you? It was nice to be congratulated and someone wants your alcohol. I'd say that's good too?"

She tilted her head at the question.

"Local? Mm...I guess, I live in a cabin next to the jungle. Comfortable and quiet living, good base for hunting. Been there for many years now, lost count how many. Three maybe? Four?"

''I don't come often in these parts but yes, I am from Caladan. I usually remain on the coast though I participated in the festival a few times'' she frowned ''And had better luck with the bottle''

"Okay, so a hunter, and a fisher. Explains why I feel so out of my depth." He chuckles, "I tell you what, we'll catch up around the festival. If you see me don't be shy, I love to network. And next time I see you Lydia I'll have a bottle of grape juice with your name on it."

Afterwards he'll break off with Laila back towards his truck.

"Laila."

"So Laila," he says in a natural and carefree sort of way, "have you managed to try that Cider you won?"

As the guy left with the girl that wanted free drink, Lydia watched on with a frown.

"What's the catch with giving away free drink..." she said mostly to herself before looking at the girl that stayed "the coast? Any more shark problems?"

"So Laila," he says in a natural and carefree sort of way, "have you managed to try that Cider you won?"

"Not yet. Think it's considered bad form until the results are in? Admit I'm not entirely sure about that, but..."

[Hadrian Martikova]

"That's fair," he laughed. "And thank you by the way. The festival attracts all types, but some are more festive than others." Just now getting a good look at the woman he quirks an eyebrow. "You know I think I saw you at the spaceport now that I think about it. I'm in and out of there all the time."

"Most likely. I'm there a fair bit- more likely to run into an employer there than some nice little village. And it's... more familiar than... all of this."

She gestured to their surroundings.

"Heh, to my family this is the big city. My brother and I are the only ones who have ever been off-world." He takes another sip of wine. "Got a job lined up or is this a getaway?"

[Laila Bridger]

"Between jobs, but getting away from nothing."

Laila didn't sip. She swigged.

"Looking to make ends meet, then get enough scratch to... I dunno. Caladan hasn't been far enough."

He smiled, "That bad huh?" He refills her glass. "Hey, if you got a story to tell I'll listen. But don't feel obligated. Caladan is where most come to forget. And views like this one, or the one back home, are good for that."
