Roger Lanville pulled himself a wine crate he then hopped on. Someone gave him a wine-filled glass. He rang on it with the hilt of his knife.
"I won't speak long. Happy to see you all here. This season's harvest has been good, you have made your Lord Duke proud, and the spaceport loaders busy for weeks to come. Without your daily work and sacrifices, House Atreides could not prosper. It's the solaris your wines and ciders earn that buy us our planetary defences and make Harkonnen scum think thrice before they pick up a fight with us. While we are feasting and celebrating tonight, Duke Leto is strengthening our House in the Imperium so that your way of life and Caladan as a whole can be protected."
He gestured toward Lydia.
"Thank you Lydia for selecting this fare for us. It's been a few years since you became a member of our community, I respect your contribution, and so should all. Madame Grey, we're honoured by your visit. Your presence here is yet another sign that House Atreides and House Mutelli are off for a good start. We've been competitors before, and I wager we'll still be - mind me, I prefer Caladanan wines - but it's good we can work on bigger issues together for the sake of the Imperium. Thank you both for the main dish tonight!"
He gestured toward the giant boar, now roasted.
"Someone once told me that the world is supported by four things, one of them being valour of the brave. So I raise the toast for the bravery of women and men of Caladan, who can rise up to any challenge thrown our way, big or small, with integrity and honour. I salute you!"
After he drank, he made eye contact with several of current and former Atreides servicepeople, especially his own family, and made a discreet hand sign in Atreides battle tongue: Tomorrow.
"Tonight, be merry!"
Then he hopped down to cut off the first slice of the boar, encouraging others to do the same.
